"That's What I Say"
C Miller Editorial

All of my friends seem to be of the same opinion on issues of the justice system , government , taxes, insurance claims, matters of the heart, etc. However, when one of us becomes a lawmaker, they are no longer of the same mind. I always wondered how that could be. I write as I feel and say the same things that we discuss on any given Friday night with friends drinking a cold one . The topics are interesting and there is no telling what I will say. Give me and ear and you may eventually find yourself in agreement. Tell it like it is . "That's What I Say".

Business Integrity

Times change, seasons change and obviously, business has changed. What has not changed is the definition of what is right and what is wrong, fair and unfair. I'm referring to the way corporate America dictates the way we must do business with them. A dishonest auto mechanic boils your blood. Crucify him is the sentiment when he is discovered. Corporate America, the Wall Marts, Home Depots, Auto Manufactures, etc. blatantly sell us products and make claim that they do not stand behind or believe in the integrity of their wares. The best way to illustrate my accusations is to remind you of how my Grandfather conducted what he called "Good Business". My definition of "Good Business" is when both parties feel that they actually got the better deal. I am amused every time that I purchase merchandise from a major store chain. It is usually a stereo, flat screen television, computer, camera, etc. My practice is to purchase the most expensive of it's kind. I feel that should at least insure me of a better quality product. At the check out, the store policy is usually posted reminding me on the stand that they take after pocketing my money. On some items they say no returns and on most items it is a limited warranty at best. With some products, once you open the box you can not return it . I don't want a reprimand for my purchase and I don't want a warranty. What I want is a promise. I want a handshake and your word that you stand behind what I just paid you for. My Grandfather would smile and shake your hand and thank you for your patronization. He would say that if my merchandise is defective in any way, then just bring it back and I will replace it. No questions asked. Today I am continuously insulted when the store clerk makes me feel terrible for not buying a warranty. In other words, they are telling me that they do not necessarily believe in their own product. They are wanting my money but will not stand behind it once I leave the store. Furthermore, they insult me by asking me to pay them additional money for what they call a warranty. If I do this then they will do what would have originally been the right , fair thing to do. That would be to fix or replace their unsatisfactory product, but I have to pay them for this insult. My Grandfather would have laughed at them thinking it was a joke. I never purchase a warranty. I simply tell them that if their product is defective and they do not honor my patronization, then I will not do any business with them ever again. I quess that would be my Limited Warranty. I limit you to only one time treating me unfairly! But that's just me and I stand alone. I suggest that you, the consumer, begin to reset Corporate Americas business savvy. Insist that this country begin doing business once again like our Grandfathers once did. Don't even get me started on another issue. Back in the day, you treaded lightly on insinuating that a man was a thief or dishonest. As I depart from the store, they just about pat me down and stop me to check my receipts to make sure that I did not steal anything from them. Then they tell me to have a nice day. Technology is better and my Grandfather George would be taken back on something as simple as a microwave. He would be more taken back , as to how an honest hard working man can be so insulted by Corporate America in the every day task of just trying to do business. Let's insist on doing business like our Grandfathers did.

That's What I Say,
